Tuart Health Research Group conducts research into the health of Tuart (Eucalyptus gomphocephala) ecosystems. Tuart is a magnificent woodland tree dominating the landscape throughout the Swan Coastal Plain of Western Australia. It is endemic to the coastal region, being found only in a 400km strip from Jurien Bay in the north to Busselton in the south.

Tuart woodlands in Yalgorup National Park, south of Mandurah have been experiencing a severe decline in canopy health since the early 1990’s. Deaths of these magnificent trees are becoming increasingly widespread and we don’t know why. The THRG is adopting a collaborative and integrated approach to research into the possible cause(s) of this decline and its impact on the biodiversity, the management of the decline, and the restoration of these ecosystems.

Our research is funded by the Australian Research Council Linkage Grants scheme, the State government, local authorities and industry.
